Hawaii3 -- Thanks to Dole, Oahu is home to many pinapples. This pinapple field is near the North Shore of Oahu. Dole evolved from United Fruit Company which was notorious for colonial-like exploitation of Central American countries. Ties between the CIA and United Fruit, combined with Communist exploitation of those connections, led to the violence and revolution that have plagued Central America for decades. The term “Banana Republics” comes from this United Fruit connection.
